Is it possible to lose weight without working out? Yes. It is entirely possible to shed pounds without really working out at all. But before you cancel out your gym membership just yet, hear me out.
Your TDEE is dictated by four considerations: how much energy your body uses during the day, how many calories you burn through exercise, how much food and drink you eat, and how much you weigh. Those last two considerations combined are known as your EAT (energy intake and expenditure). Any changes in your diet, activity level, or body composition can affect your EAT. So, can your sleep and drinking water. But those last two are independent of your diet and physical activity.
The best way to track your EAT is by keeping a food journal. You might think that keeping track of every single bite of food you eat is difficult, but it's actually quite easy. Just buy a cheap fat-free, low calorie, high fiber food journal from any drugstore or grocery store. That way, every week, you'll be able to write down what you ate for dinner, what times you had breakfast, lunch, and dinner, how much food and drink you've consumed during the day, and how much weight you've lost or gained during that time.
Many people are confused about the term hydration. They assume that thirst means low water levels, which automatically translates into not eating enough. Nothing could be further from the truth. Actually, dehydration occurs when a person's body is dilated; when this happens, people typically don't feel thirsty.
When you're hungry, your brain signals your stomach to produce hunger chemicals, so your digestive system starts churning out more digestive hormones. If you eat fewer meals per day, you can lose weight without working out! This is because you are burning through more calories when you eat less food than when you eat the same amount of food but have larger meals. Eating small frequent meals will help you stick to your diet and give you sustained energy.
Another important factor to consider when you're looking to lose weight without working out is your diet. Not only must you consume fewer calories than your body requires to maintain itself, but you also have to take in more fiber and protein in your meals to get the best possible results. You should make eating foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and lean meats a regular part of your diet.
Another area to address when you're dieting is your emotions. It has been proven that people who are stressed out tend to have unhealthy cravings for foods that contain sugar and fat. To counteract this, you should learn to relax more often by taking deep, cleansing breaths, and you should try to identify negative thoughts as they arise so that you can let them go and prevent them from interfering with your weight loss efforts. This may sound complicated, but it's really not. Just learn to manage your stress levels, and you'll be surprised at how much easier it becomes to lose weight and avoid eating unhealthy foods.
Finally, one thing that many people don't think about when trying to lose weight without exercising is sleep. Without exercise, you are deprived of an essential nutrient. In addition, when you skip your exercise, your body often produces more cortisol, which stimulates hunger. Cortisol affects how many times you eat, so you end up eating more even when you're not hungry. This causes you to eat unhealthy foods because you believe that you're satisfied, even when you're not.
